What makes up a good playlist?

Playlisting has come a long way since the days of the cassette mixtape. Using platforms such as Youtube or Spotify, anyone can make up an infinite number of playlists that can work for any context - in the car, in the gym, on the tube etc. Access to music is no longer the issue, but auto-playlist generation algorhythms and radio constantly
falls short. This means the human curator/playlister or DJ is now more essential than ever. So what makes a good curator? Can anyone do it or is there a special skill?

For the past three years, and as a result of an Innovation Award by Creative Scotland, we've been building a flexible playlist system that strikes a balance between making best use of cutting edge web-based technology but not to the exclusion of the human being; in this case the staff member, the punter and the DJ or curator.

'Open Ear Player' - the Intelligent Music Playlisting platform - represents a leap forward in terms of playlisting technology and allowing businesses to take control of their music, accessing thousands of songs and hundreds of playlists, with an array of simple tools designed to turn an art form into a manageable and enjoyable task.

We're excited to be demo-ing our revolutionary 'Energy Slider' control that allows, for the first time, new playlist generation to take place in realtime, mimicking (and in some cases replacing) the need for a live DJ.
